Tamer guide 2019


INTRODUCTION

The Tamer class has one of the most unique play styles in Black Desert, along with the Berserker class. The Tamer class is fun to play and PvE is really easy because you have plenty of AoE skills. The combat style of Tamer is very fast paced with lots of mobility and low defense.

At level 20 you are able to summon your pet “beast” who will aid you in combat. Once you reach level 49 another skill becomes available which allows you to ride your pet as a mount and attack whilst riding it. The Tamer class is quite dependent on their pet which makes large scale PvP quite challenging.

SKILLS

This is a PvP focused build, which is also suitable for PvE, for players who are level 50 or higher. It uses a total of 520 Skill Points so if you’ve just reached level 50 don’t worry about maxing all of the skills straight away.  Click here to view the build.
SKILL TAMER
The names of skills in this build are taken from the EU/NA version and may differ from the skill calculator above.

  • Keys in square brackets [] mean that you tap the key. For example, [Q] means you tap Q once.
  • Keys in round brackets () mean that you hold the key. For example, (HOLD Q) means you hold Q until the next step. (PERMAHOLD Q) means you hold Q throughout the combo.
  • Keys separated by a “+” symbol should be used at the same time. For example, [Q] + [LMB] means you tap Q and LMB at the same time.
  • Keys separated by a “>” symbol show the order you should follow out the steps. For example, [Q] + [LMB] > [F] means you tap Q and LMB at the same time, then tap F
  • [LMB] refers to left-clicking with your mouse, [RMB] refers to right-clicking with your mouse.
GENERAL
Leaf Slash
[LMB]
Leaf Slash is your main auto attack. It doesn’t do much damage at all and I honestly wouldn’t bother leveling it higher, because you’ll only be using this skill to regenerate mana. At higher grade, it deals a little bit more damage and increases the attack speed and accuracy of the skill.
Heilang: Whiplash
[RMB]
This skill is your offhand auto attack. I would actually recommend taking this skill and maxing it because despite it being your offhand auto attack, it does quite a lot of damage.
Summon Heilang
Skill Bar
This skill unlocks at level 20 and must be placed on your skill bar. You use it to summon your pet “beast”. This pet attacks along side you and at level 49 you can also ride the beast by commanding him to “stay” and then pressing [R] next to him to climb on. The skill lasts 3 minutes at level 20, but at higher grade can last up to 10 minutes. There is a long cool down of 2 minutes, but this still means that there will always be a 100% uptime.
Command: Attack

Order your pet to attack the closest enemy or the enemy you have targeted.
Command: Stay
Skill Bar
Order your pet to wait for your next instruction.
Command: Follow
Skill Bar
Your pet will stop what it is currently doing and come to you.
Command: Sit
Skill Bar
You pet will sit/lie down. During this time you will both recover HP.
DODGES
Evasion
(HOLD SHIFT) + [A] OR [S] OR [D]
This skill is one of your dodges. There are others that work as passives and combine with other skills. But this is your main dodge. You can also use this skill by double tapping [W]. The skill will cause your character to flip to the side, jump backwards, or front flip forwards. The skill does use up stamina, but at higher grades will reduce the amount of stamina used.
KICKS
Flurry of Kicks
[F]
You can hold Flurry of Kicks to kick the enemy up to 3 times in a row before the animation is reset. This kick will turn your target around, allowing you to easily perform a back attack and deal more damage. At higher grade, it will also knock back the target. Kicks are very useful to combo with other skills.
Tree Climb
[W] + [F]
Tree Climb is an air attack kick and your character will leap away afterwards. Kicks are very useful to combo with other skills.
Stretch Kick
[S] + [F]
Stretch Kick is an upwards kick which will knock down enemies. At higher grade, it will also knock back. Kicks are very useful to combo with other skills.
Soaring Kick
[E]
This skill will grab and enemy before kicking them and throwing them, knocking down the target and other enemies.
DAMAGE
Evasive Attack
[LMB] + [A] OR [D]
This skill will strafe you to the side whilst slashing out in front of you. Higher grade increases the skills critical chance and range. This skill is good for kiting or gathering up monsters.
Flowing Water
Passive
This skill is an extension of Evasive Attack which will automatically strike twice.
Flash
[LMB] + [S]
This skill will strike out and lunge forwards. At higher grade, the skills damage is increased and the distance of the lunge is increased. I wouldn’t actually recommend maxing this skill or taking it’s extensions unless you have already maxed out more important skills.
Bolt Wave
[LMB] + [SHIFT]
Bolt Wave is a forwards strike which will stun the enemy for 3 seconds. There is also an extension to this skill which I would recommend maxing as well.
Jolt Wave
[LMB] + [SHIFT]
You can use the combo again directly after Bolt Wave. The extension will also knock down the target and deal high damage with a high critical chance. This skill is great for single targets or in PvP.
Heilang: Scratch
[RMB] + [A] OR [D]
This skill will strafe you to the side in a sideways swipe. It uses mana and can be used whilst riding your beast. It will also push monsters to the side.
Heilang: Lightning of Earth
[RMB] + [W]
This skill will slash forwards, knocking back enemies and at higher grade also knocking them down. The skill can be used whilst riding your beast.
Heilang: Upward Claw
[RMB] + [S]
This skill is your 100% Black Spirit Rage skill. It will charge you forwards, knocking up enemies and also knocking them back. You can also use this skill whilst riding your beast. It’s also important to note that the only way to learn this skill is through a Black Spirit quest.
Heilang: Throat-Burn
[RMB] + [SHIFT]
This skill is a wide swing which will knock back enemies. At higher grade, it will give the skill more range and damage. However, I wouldn’t bother maxing it until you have your main skills maxed first.
Heilang: Trample
[SPACE] after some skills
This skill combos with a few others, such as your main auto attack, Bolt Wave and Jolt Wave. You can use this skill on your beast, by simplily pressing [SPACE] to pounce forwards.
Heilang: Surging Tide
[SHIFT] + [F]
This skill will knockback enemies whilst dealing damage. It’s not a good skill on it’s own, but can be used with your beast to deal more damage. It will also bring beast back to you if he/she has wandered off. You can use this skill whilst riding your beast, by using [SHIFT] + [W] to dash to an enemy and deal an attack.
Heilang: Fearful Trembling
[SHIFT] + [Q]
This skill will stun enemies and is one of your better AoE skills. You can hold the skill for longer to knock back enemies as well. The skill works well in PvP and is one of your best crowd controls skills.
Void Lightning
(HOLD Q)
Void Lightning pulls enemies inwards towards you, flinching them and slowing them. Holding [Q] will quickly drain your stamina. The skill by itself doesn’t do much damage but if your beast is summoned, it will also strike the enemies at the same time to deal high damage. The monsters shouldn’t hit you because they are flinched during this time. You can also ignore the cool down and cast the skill again, but this will deal less damage. The skill is great for leveling and works well with your other AoE skills.
Heilang: Roaring
Skill Bar
Heilang: Roaring is your 200% Black Spirit Rage skill. It deals high damage and also knocks back enemies as well as knocking them down and slowing them. You can ignore the cool down and spam this skill to deal reduced damage. You can also use this skill whilst on your beast. Along with Void Lightning, this skill is one of your main AoE skills and is the skill you will be using the most.
